Frequently asked questions
Everything you wanted to know about getting a website for your local business — answered honestly and without jargon.
Pricing & packages
Our websites start at £449 for the Starter package (up to 4 pages), £849 for the Growth package (up to 7 pages, with full local SEO and Google Business Profile setup), and £1,499 for the Pro package (unlimited pages, online shop or booking system).
All prices are fixed — what we quote is what you pay. There are no surprise extras on our end. Some third-party costs (like a domain name or ICO registration) are separate, and we'll always explain those before you commit to anything.
We're also running a 10% launch offer — use code MPLAUNCH when you fill in our project form.
Starter (£449): Up to 4 pages, mobile-friendly design, contact form, click-to-call, basic SEO, Google Maps embed, 1 revision round.
Growth (£849): Up to 7 pages, full local SEO, Google Business Profile setup, 2 location landing pages, enquiry booking form, 2 revision rounds, speed optimisation.
Pro (£1,499): Unlimited pages, custom design, online shop (up to 20 products) or booking system, 5 location pages, advanced SEO, Google Analytics 4, 3 revision rounds, 1 month post-launch support.
You can also add extras like logo design (£149), copywriting (£99/page), or additional location pages (£75 each).
As a new business, we're offering 10% off all website build packages to our first clients — that's £90 off the Starter, £170 off Growth, and £300 off Pro.
To claim it, simply enter the code MPLAUNCH in the promo code field in Step 4 of our project form. The discount will be applied to your package price automatically, and you'll see the updated total on screen before you submit.
The offer applies to the one-off website build fee only, not to monthly hosting or care plans. It's available for a limited time while we're building up our portfolio.
No. We are not currently VAT registered, so all prices are final — no VAT to add. If we become VAT registered in the future, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and it will only apply to new quotes from that date.
Every website needs somewhere to live online — that's hosting. You have two options:
- Use our hosting plans (from £25/month) — we handle everything technical, including SSL (the security padlock), daily backups, and software updates.
- Host it yourself, or use your own existing hosting. In that case we'll hand over the files and give you guidance, but ongoing maintenance is down to you.
Most clients find our hosting plans much easier than dealing with a separate hosting company. There's no minimum contract on the Essential and Care plans.
All websites we build are hosted on Netlify — a professional hosting platform used by millions of websites worldwide. Netlify handles the technical side: fast global delivery, automatic SSL (the security padlock), and daily backups on our care plans.
If you don't take one of our hosting plans, your site still lives on Netlify's free tier, which includes everything a local business website needs — there are no adverts, no Netlify branding on your site, and no time limit. The free tier covers up to 100GB of traffic per month, which is far more than a typical local business site will ever use.
You're never locked in. If you ever want to move to a different host or a different developer, we'll hand over your complete website files and you can take them anywhere. The site files are yours once the final invoice is paid.
Process & timelines
Starter sites are typically live in 5–7 working days. Growth sites take 8–12 days. Pro sites take 14–21 days.
The clock starts once we have your deposit and all your content (text, photos, logo). The biggest cause of delays is usually waiting for content from the client — so the more prepared you are when we start, the faster we go.
At minimum, we need:
- Your logo (or we can design one)
- Photos of your work, team, or premises — smartphone photos are fine
- A description of your services and the areas you cover
- Your phone number, email, and any social media accounts
If you don't have professional photos or written content, we offer copywriting at £99 per page — or we can work with what you have and still make it look great.
Yes. If you're on a Care plan (£49/month) or Growth Care plan (£99/month), you get a set number of update hours included each month — just email us and we'll make the changes.
If you're on our Essential hosting plan or self-hosting, we can make updates on an ad-hoc basis at our standard rate of £75/hour. Most small changes (updating a price, swapping a photo, adding a new service) take well under an hour.
We try to make the process as light-touch as possible — you have a business to run. The main moments where we need you are:
- At the start — to provide your content and answer a few questions
- For the review stage — to look through the draft and tell us what you want changed
- Before go-live — to give final sign-off
We typically communicate by email or WhatsApp, so you can respond when it suits you. We ask for feedback within 14 days of sending a draft — if we don't hear back, we may need to reschedule your slot.
SEO & Google
Every website we build includes on-page SEO as standard — that means proper page titles, descriptions, headings, and structure that Google can read. We also submit your sitemap to Google Search Console so it gets indexed quickly.
However, SEO takes time. A brand-new website won't appear at the top of Google overnight — it typically takes 3–6 months to see significant results for competitive searches. Our Growth and Pro packages include a more thorough local SEO setup (location pages, Google Business Profile, structured data) which gives you a head start.
We're honest about this because not all web designers are: SEO is a long game, and anyone promising "page one in a week" isn't being straight with you.
A Google Business Profile is the listing that appears in Google Maps and in the box on the right-hand side of search results when someone searches for your business by name or trade. It shows your phone number, opening hours, address, reviews, and photos.
For a local business, it's often more important than your website for getting found. If someone searches "plumber in Wakefield" on their phone, Google Business Profiles appear before website results.
Setting one up is free, and we include Google Business Profile setup in our Growth and Pro packages. We've also written a step-by-step guide if you want to do it yourself.
Local SEO is the process of making your website appear in searches that include a location — like "electrician Leeds" or "best restaurant Wakefield." It involves setting up your Google Business Profile correctly, using location-specific keywords on your pages, and building a consistent presence across directories.
Location pages are dedicated pages for each town or city you serve. If you cover five areas, a single "About Us" page mentioning all five won't rank as well as having a page specifically about your service in each location. They're included in our Growth package (2 pages) and Pro package (5 pages), or available as a £75 add-on.
Technical questions
A domain name is your website's address — like smithsplumbing.co.uk. Every website needs one. A .co.uk domain typically costs around £10–20 per year if you register it yourself.
If you don't already have a domain, we can register and manage it for you for £15/year (our domain management add-on). If you already own a domain, we'll connect it to your new site as part of the build at no extra charge.
We build websites using clean HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — or WordPress where a content management system is needed (e.g. for blogs, larger sites, or e-commerce). We choose the right tool for the job rather than defaulting to one platform for everything.
Our static sites (built without WordPress) are typically faster, more secure, and cheaper to host than WordPress equivalents. We only use WordPress when its flexibility genuinely benefits you.
Yes — always, without exception. Every website we build is mobile-responsive, meaning it adapts to look great on phones, tablets, and desktops. Mobile-first design is part of our standard build process, not an optional extra.
This matters because the majority of local searches happen on mobile, and Google ranks mobile-friendly sites higher in search results.
If your website has a contact form (which it almost certainly will), it collects personal data — and that legally requires you to register as a data controller with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). For a sole trader, this costs £40 per year, paid directly to the ICO.
This is a legal requirement under UK GDPR, not something we charge for. We'll explain the process and point you in the right direction as part of your site launch, but the registration itself is done by you at ico.org.uk/registration. It takes about 10 minutes.
You do — fully, once the final invoice is paid. All the design, code, and content we create specifically for your project is assigned to you on payment. You can take the files to any other host or developer in the future.
This is different from some website builders (like Wix or Squarespace) where you're essentially renting a site and lose access if you stop paying. With us, you own your site outright.
Working with us
We're based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, and most of our clients are local businesses in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Halifax, and the surrounding areas.
That said, the whole process works perfectly well remotely — by email and WhatsApp — so we're happy to work with businesses anywhere in the UK. Local businesses are our focus and our speciality, but geography isn't a barrier.
Yes. Redesigns and improvements are a significant part of what we do. Whether it's a complete rebuild, updating an outdated look, improving page speed, or adding a booking system, we'll quote based on the scope of what's needed.
If you have an existing domain, we'll connect it to your new site. If you're moving from another host, we'll handle the migration as part of the project.
We build in revision rounds specifically to make sure you're happy before anything goes live. Your package includes a set number of revision rounds, and we won't ask for the final payment until you've signed off the site in writing.
If something isn't right, tell us — that's what revisions are for. We'd much rather fix something than have a client who isn't happy. Our goal is a site you're proud to send people to.
As a new business, we're currently building our portfolio. We're transparent about this — it's one of the reasons we're offering a 10% launch discount to our first clients.
The best way to get a sense of our work is this website itself — it's built to the same standard as the sites we produce for clients. We're happy to walk you through what we'd build for your specific business before you commit to anything.
We're always happy to chat. No sales pitch, no pressure — just a straightforward conversation.
